The Board’s role, and the choice not to agendize.
The district does not set Marin Transit schedules, but it can discuss student transportation, take public comment, and decide what advocacy is appropriate. The October 8 response declined a requested public agenda item.
Ask for the same commitment from every candidate.
Would they support a school board discussion of the underlying Route 57 data and a written Marin Transit feasibility review? This site does not recommend how to vote; it provides the question, the documented board decision and links to official election materials.
A request for a public, data-based discussion
The requester supplied an analysis of earlier and later Route 57 arrivals and asked district trustees to review the underlying data in public. He offered to provide the raw records and assist with interpretation.
On October 8, Superintendent Kristy Treewater wrote that she and Board President Brad Honsberger had decided not to place the request on the board agenda, explaining that the district does not control Marin Transit routing and scheduling.
Her response also offered general public comment, written input or a meeting as alternative ways to raise the issue. The archived documents do not establish whether the underlying original spreadsheet was independently examined before this decision.
Public accountability questions
- Could the board review the data in public without deciding the transit schedule itself?
- Would the district advocate for a transit feasibility review if supported by the data?
- What consultation has occurred with parents and students who rely on the service?
